Capsule Geology

The Jan 1 occurrence is located approximately 2 kilometres north of Shedin Peak and 78 kilometres north of Hazelton.

Regionally, the area is underlain by clastic sedimentary rocks of the Middle Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous Bowser Lake Group, which have been intruded by granodiorite of the Upper Cretaceous Bulkley Plutonic Suite. Hornfels and calc-silicate skarn is developed in the contact area of the intrusion.

Locally, a copper-molybdenum showing is reported (#301 on Map 69-1).

In 2014, a float sample (RX398068) from a granodiorite boulder with disseminated molybdenite, chalcopyrite and pyrite and malachite staining, located approximately 1.7 kilometres to the southwest of the plotted location of the occurrence, assayed 10.2 grams per tonne silver, 0.557 per cent copper and 0.028 per cent molybdenum, whereas a nearby grab sample (RX398069) from a quartz vein with similar mineralization yielded 0.126 per cent copper (Assessment Report 35139).

Work History

The area was covered by the Atna and Mad group of claims and was optioned by Canadian Superior Exploration Limited in 1967. Trenching was reported to have been performed at this time.

In 2013 and 2014, Vale Exploration Canada Inc. completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and a 3278.0 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey on the area as the S2 property. In 2017, an induced polarization and magnetotellurics survey was completed on the property.
